"I am glad that the effort to shorten the working day for the workers in the floors where high level of radiation was found, yielded fruit and I see it as an important achievement for the relief of the worried workers"

One of the workers told Ynet that "it's a sad joke, also 6 hours of exposure to radiation is dangerous to health and if the building is really dangerous then it's time they close the offices and transfer us to another place".

From the education ministry it was told that "Dalit Shtauber, the ministry's executive, received the decision to temporarily approve the working day to 6 hours for the workers from good will to make it easier on the panic and anxiety that the workers expressed to her. The IEC wants better ELF standart (better for them)

The Israeli Electric Company (IEC) wants better ELF standards. These "better" ELF standards are better for the IEC and not for the public. For year the IEC has build it's facilities in a way that danger the public with high levels of ELF, and now instead of improving their facilities they want to improve the ELF exposure standard in Israel so it would be more cost effective.

The IEC base its' opinion on the short term exposure limit of 1000 mG, and reject the finding of studies around the world that showed that levels above 2mG can cause cancer. It also reject the IARC classification of ELF as "possible carcinogenic to humans" from 2002.

Obviously the IEC concern is the money cost and not the health cost each and every one of use will pay.

EMR awareness lessons in Israeli elementary schools

The Israeli ministry of education is going to limit the use of cell phones in schools. The ministry will not entirely follow the European assembly resolution from 05/2011 that called to band cellphone use in schools. The ministry seems to partialy adopt the European Parliament resolution from 2009 (which is less stricked). The ministry of education will enforce the new resolutions that are aimed in limiting the young students exposure (both in level perspective and time perspective). Today (19/07/2011) a kick off convention for the "lobby for reasonable cellphone use" was held in the Knesset, the Israeli parliament. The convention and the lobby is lead by parliament member Juliya Shmalov-Berkovich. In the convention there were about 15 speakers (including PH.D. Zamir Shalita, BSC Ram dishon, Rony keller, Zvi Shevach, PH.D. Yael Stein, Mr. David Bar-Dror, Knesset members and myself) who gave short lectures and explanations. The aim of the lobby is to push for better cellphone's regulation and lows, to create and develop public awareness to the dangers of exposure to RF/cellphone radiation, to limit the use of cellphones by childrens, to include warning about possible health risk on cellphones, to make cellphone companies to send SMS messages with radiation warning every day, and to limit the why that cellphone companies will be able to publish their products, to develop and find ways to limit the public danger from cellphone radiation.

I was lucky to present a short presentation about the unknown side to radiation and about electromagnetic hyper sensitivity, It was the first time that an EHS person appeared in a meeting in the Israeli parlament and the first time that the issue of Electromagnetic Hyper sensitivity was addressed by other people in the convention.

Please note that Israel is a small country but it is the world leader on cellphone use, maybe we can also be world leader in awareness for EHS and RF/ELF dangers.

· The construction department in the Ministry of Education will be responsible to deal with the problems found, including in some cases evacuation of students from problematic classrooms, and reporting the problems to the Israeli eclectic company and to the school in question so they will fix the problems.

· After fixing the problem the Ministry of Environment Protection may make a second test.

How to stop a scientist

What will you do, as an executive of a company, when a scientist is about to repeat a study that shows that your product might have some health issues?

Option 1 – try to understand the study and fix the product.

Option 2 – Try and stop the study from being repeated, mmm this is much quicker and much cheaper!

How to do it?

Step 1 - wait until the researcher is on holiday or sick with limited access to emails and info about what is going on in his labs.

What went wrong with the interphone study

The interphone study that was published this week and made a lot of headlines. After the dust of the battle slowly disappear the facts and problems of the study are shown clearly at the light of day.

Problems in the study:

1. "A regular user" is defined as a person how used the cellphone as much as for 30 minutes a month for half a year. The problem is that this is a very low use time, average in the world today is about 2 hours a month, every month!
2. The heaviest users in the study used their cellphone for more than 1640 hours in 10 years, meaning about 27 minutes each day. The problem is that today heavy users talk much more than that, actually most of the people I know talk more than that.
3. Users reported their use pattern using a form. In some cases their use pattern was reported by other persons. The problem is that this method is not consistence and not 100% accurate as people who don't use the phone a lot tend to report more use, and people that uses the phone a lot tend to report lower use.
4. Exposure to other types of electromagnetic radiation was not considered. The problem is that those how reported no use at all, may have been exposed to electromagnetic radiation which could have cause them cancer. This would cause the ratio between healthy people and sick people in the control group (who did not use the cellphone) to be higher than in reality (more sick people in the control group than in the real world). This will lead to OR <1>
5. People who died or were too sick before the study was finished were deducted from the study even if their data was already acquired. The problem is that this operation will reduce the number of people with cancer in all the users groups.

My conclusion is that this study has 2 final true results:

1. People how speak more than 27 minutes a day have a higher chance of developing brain cancer.
2. All this study outcomes are lower than in reality because of all the problems in it.
